Loved your story, Jacky (and mags, off list) Thanks. I've just heard
that they will be showing the Blues Alley footage for the first time on
the main 'Top of the Pops' show this Friday - see
http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/entertainment/newsid_1231000/1231741.stm
I didn't mention before, but Eva's version of 'Rainbow' was also used
in last Friday's 'Comic Relief' fundraising evening on BBC 1, to accompany
some particularly harrowing film of the plight of the Rwandan people in
Africa - in particular, to help the families of women who contracted Aids,
having been raped during the 1994 genocide. I know it was this that got
'me' off my arse to phone in my credit card number. Whilst they are still
receiving donations at http://www.rednoseday.com, that evening alone
they received over 22 million GBPs. I wrote to Laura saying that I thought
this was the greatest testament to her wonderful music so far, and Laura
wrote back to say that she would send my e-mail to Eva's parents, who
would be so proud.

One of the most important things (often left off) is to include the 'accurate'
running time of each track on the back cover - particularly if he or she is
hoping to get some airplay. DJs need to know this so that they can schedule
their shows. Also, website and e-mail address is a very good idea these
days. I would recommend reading these guidelines -
http://www.folkradio.org/howto.html and scrolling down to 'CD Packaging' -
whilst this is an article with advice on how to get airplay on 'folk' radio
shows, the same advice holds true for any genre, I think.
Also, if all the material is original, encourage them to take the time to join
The Performing Rights Society to ensure that they get their dues -
see http://www.prs.co.uk. If the CD includes covers, advise them to be
sure to get clearance from The Mechanical Copyright Protection Society -
see http://www.mcps.co.uk

Me too. As I told you privately, you just never know who might turn up
there. Last Saturday night Sheryl Crow and her band made a surprise
appearance there playing to an audience of under 100 (which included
Chrissie Hynde and Emmylou Harris). Apparently Sheryl played an
acoustic set including 'Run Baby Run', 'If It Makes You Happy' and
'My Favourite Mistake' amongst others. Also, apparently Paul McCartney
turned up a while back "to see what the vibe was all about."
Joni's not in town working on her latest album, is she?
