<< Oh get over yourself! If you were actually lucky enough to be graced by
the presence of one of the greatest artists of our time you'd call her on
smoking! Go sit in your own smoke free room without Joni in it!

Sorry, I don't think that superior artistry gives someone the license to
indulge in their addiction to expense of others.

Kakki pointed out that for the Sasakatoon opening, she was probably nervous
and that the her smoking wasn't the best for the paintings and wasn't going
to really harm them. And she's certainly correct about that as well as her
point, (and Colin's, I believe), that it's too bad that people don't worry
more and be more zealous about larger issues when they nitpick on smoking.
However, just because there are people who are hypocritical when it comes to
maintaining the integrity of a smoke free environment, doesn't mean that it's
not a real issue. It certainly is a health issue for many people and a
legitimate concern.

One of my co-workers suffers terribly from severe asthma. She accepts that
people smoke and expects to have to deal with it. However, in a "smoke free"
place, she expects to be able to breathe without hassle. It's horrible to
watch her gasp for breath on a rainy day after she's run through the work
entrance where the smokers congregate under the front awning.

So yeah, if Joni was smoking around me where I expected to be able to breathe
freely, I'm not going to wheeze in silence while she puffs away. If I ran
into her outdoors or some other smoking place, I would put up or shut up.

I would also like to take this opportunity to say that my experiences with
smokers is that they have a real tough time of it from anti-smoking laws to
high taxes on tobacco to social ostracism. And in my gatherings with list
smokers, they have never been anything less than courteous and considerate
with their smoking.

>> (This may seem harsh, but enough already of this smoking police crap! And
I don't even smoke!) >>

Didn't see that many posts by this and I think it is less smoking police and
more someone just brought up a discussion of Joni's habits/addictions. I've
not seen any get too sanctimonious about this, (except for me but people who
smoke in "smoke free" places can drive me nuts), no one has said, "I'm better
than her because I don't smoke."
