<<So they can be SEEN and ADMIRED by others while sporting their spiffy jogging clothes! (It sure as hell can't be for their health.)>> Lori, it's certainly odd to see this kind of stereotype from someone who generally has a low tolerance for them. I'm a runner, and I much prefer the out of doors to running on a treadmill or track. Sometimes I have to run past some traffic to get to Cleveland Park, which is about 2 miles of my 6-mile track. I try to run when there is less traffic on the streets, for the obvious safety, fumes, etc, but during the week I run on my lunch hour, so there are obviously more cars. Yes, I know that most of the drivers are outraged to see me, even though I stay on the sidewalk and ALWAYS yield to cars. I get honked at, cursed, and have had cigarettes, beer cans, and tennis balls hurled at me. No hits as of yet. As for my "spiffy" jogging clothes, they consist of old T-shirts and gym shorts that rarely match. I just pull them out of my drawer with little concern to fashion. If it's cold, I don a sweatshirt as well. I confess that I DO wear top of the line shoes to protect my knees and lower back. A nice pair of shoes makes a big difference! Plus in the summers, I love to get out and feel the sun on my skin. One of life's free pleasures. So, none of my exercise program is geared to show off - it's all geared to my health, and in the last 20 years the only time I've gone to the doctor is to get a physical to join the fitness club, so I feel I'm doing something right. Wanna race? Or would that label me as a 'racist'? ;~) Bob NP: Peter Gabriel, "san jacinto"
