Hi,

Slouching out of lurkdom to ask a question:
I went to see the play "Snakebit" last week, west coast production here in
San Francisco at The New Conservatory Theater Center, written by David
Marshall Grant (his first ouvre as a writer, though his acting career is
well known: he wsa nominated for a Tony for playing "Joe", the uptight
closted banker in the original Broadway production of "Angels in America",
has had many acting roles, and in film was in 'and the band played on', and
and also has the dubious spot in gay US american television as being the
first man to appear in bed with another man, as the character "russell" on
"thirtysomething" way back when...).
So...anyway: he wrote "Snakebit" which had its Off-Broadway premiere in
1998, and just made it California. I loved the play a lot.

There are several lines in it which refer to the main character's CD
collection: James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan. And before the lights
go down, while the audience is filling their seats, the set is exposed, a
living room, you hear lots of songs (this particular director's choice I
assume): Joni from Blue, James from Mud Slide Slim, et al.

I know the script has been published, because they were selling autographed
copies in the lobby of the theater, though I didn't get one, so can't quote
the lines from the play re: Joni.
I was wondering... if there has been a thread already on here about
"Snakebit", the play, and references to Joni, ... and if so, could someone
point me to that particular archive? I'd love to read about people's
reactions/response.

I loved the play, and having Joni's music played during our
'seating/pre-lights-do-down' really added to the ambience, as well as the
well-timed references to her music, which spoke more about one of the
character's sensibilities than about the time/setting of the play (it's set
in 1998, in LA).
