Dear Garret! I wasn't trying to criticize you at all, and I apologize if it
sounded like I was. In fact, I felt that what you wrote as a whole was the
most well-reasoned thing I had read on the list so far about smoking. I was
only trying to clarify that a lot of people think they choose to smoke or
that smokers choose to smoke, when really, most of the time, it's not a
choice at all.

Please do, and if it helps them, please let me know! I really believe it
can work - well, mainly because it worked for me.

I really truly was not trying to criticize *you* or make you feel bad. Only
trying to make the point about choice vs. addiction.

This is probably the only point at which there is any hope of not becoming
addicted. Once you're hooked, it's hell to quit.

It seems to me, at least in continental Europe, like a lot of young people
are still picking up the habit. Maybe it is not as socially unacceptable
here as it is in North America.

Nothing to be sorry for, Garret.

Ramona is a young Austrian woman who composes truly
beautiful/interesting/complicated original music and performs frequently in
Vienna with her band - drummer, bass player, soprano sax player - who are
also very talented to be able to learn Ramona's complex songs. I've been to
three of her concerts now and the overall flavor of the music strikes me as
kind of a mixture of Jonatha/jazz/flamenco/african/gypsy - sometimes all
within one song. She has had some training in Flamenco guitar, but mostly
she is self-taught. She uses a lot of open tunings. She has a very clear
beautiful singing voice. She also plays piano and accordion and is learning
to play the flute. She is a musician to the depths of her soul and is
probably the most creative musical/poetic person I have ever had the good
fortune to be able to talk to for longer than 5 minutes. She's also
beautiful to look at and you can see some pictures of her and her band at:

She has enough original material for 3 CDs and will hopefully produce one
sometime within the next year. I will certainly let everyone know when this
happens.

Regards to all,

Marian
