Hi to everybody!
Well, we go through this every year - the Oscars!
Steve Martin was as good a host as anyone who isn't Billy Cristal could
be, but imho he didn't have Billy's genius for diverting us from the
basic boringness of the ceremony.
We needed a Cher, or at least a Geena Davis!!
My favorite moments were:
- the unexpected win of Marcia Gay Harden, a great actress in a great
performance
- Dino DiLaurentis admonishing the big studios to trust young talent
- Tom Hanks expertly playing along with Steve Martin
- Steven Soderberg winning Best Director for Traffic
- Julia's speech (OK, I'm a big Julia Roberts fan - she's a genuine
actress as well as a genuine movie star)
- the radiant and oh-so-classy Julie Andrews, looking spectacular at 65,
and the unbelievably beautiful Catherine Zeta-Jones dressed simply in
black
- Kevin Spacey's mention of Dame Judi Dench
My least favorite moments were:
- when Kenneth Lonergan didn't get Best Screenplay for You Can Count On
Me
- when Gladiator won Best Picture over Traffic
This year, because of work, I had to tape the Oscar show and watch it
later. This enabled me to fast-forward through the ads, some of the
speeches, and the performance of Bjork, whose appeal eludes me.
That's my Oscar report (see You Can Count On Me, that's all I have to
say about that.)
love to all.
