Ashara,

With all due respects, Marcel was writing about the Oscars in jest. He has written
humorous "reviews" like this before, and I personally find them entertaining. Let's
face it, even the Associated Press referred to Julia Roberts' behavior as "giddy."

I don't understand this recent epidemic of hypersensitivity -- perhaps Venus
retrograde is affecting people.

If people are going to threaten to quit the list at the slightest hint of wit, parody,
sarcasm, criticism, belligerence, political opinions, disappointment, upset or even
stupid little outbursts of anger, then I guess I have no choice but to threaten to
quit this list!

Considering that we are orbiting around the creative presence of one of the most
outspoken, critical, and sometimes downright negative songwriters ever to be recorded,
I find this ironic... Joni Mitchell has one of the cruelest tongues in the industry.
We all profess to respect Joni's writing. We laud her for saying what needs to be
said, for being free to express herself, for having the chutzpah to put "kiss my ass"
in her lyrics. But now we start to criticize members of our own JMDL community for
being outspoken??????

I'm sorry to see Kakki leave the list too. However, I have yet to understand what
offense was so awful that it compelled her to leave.

Now Ashara has hinted at leaving because of Marcel's tongue-in-cheek reference to
Julia Roberts' decidedly bimboesque performance.

Kakki obviously was aware that her leaving would upset people. Ashara, you KNOW that
your leaving would virtually destroy the energy of this list.

Why?

Perhaps we could add a guideline that outright personal attacks on other listers won't
be tolerated. But, other than that, people need to be free to express themselves. Or
this will need to become the (Politically Correct) Kathy Lee Gifford Discussion List.

Disappointedly,

Harper Lou
