<<that was valuable information, don, and its a gross and sickening situation...>>
Yes it is...While I'm not a fan of big government, I think that we can clearly see
that deregulation may benefit end users in the short run but in the long run results
in oligopoly and sometimes even monopoly, and the end users are screwed.
Look at what's happened in the airline industry. Flying used to be an enjoyable,
reliable, safe experience. Thanks to deregulation the price of airfares may be more
competitive, but look at the trade off. The same people screaming 'get the government
off our backs' are the first to complain when service levels plummet.
My Dad worked for the National Weather Service his whole life and during the 80's
would come home shaking his head when he'd heard of the Feds deregulating and
outsourcing services.
In terms of radio, I NEVER listen to commercial radio, unless I'm travelling with my
son and switch it to his "New Rock" station... With the options available to stream
music over the internet, the sophistication of car and home audio, Napster, etc., I
have NO reason to listen to the pablum found on the radio dial. Keep in mind I'm
talking COMMERCIAL radio...college radio and some of the more eclectic NPR affiliates
are still very much enjoyable and on the edge. And some are even HUGE Joni fans, and
they let you know it - AMEN!
