So, I was what could be called a typical Hollywood party tonight, filled with
folks of dubious fame. One man I spoke with, at some length, claimed to be
Burton Cummings (sp?!?) of the Guess Who? I am still guessing.
This guy seemed to be the real thing, based upon the people who came up to
speak with him (including Michelle Phillips). So, in my ignorance/innocence,
upon learning he was Canadian (from an innocent bystander), I asked him
something like was he hep to Joni Mitchell? Now, believe me, my dear
correspondents, I didn't use the word hep - I said something much cooler.
Can't recall what, but I didn't embarrass y'all.
He looked me "right in the eye" and told me the Guess Who? had recorded three
Joni Mitchell songs that were never released. He said they weren't considered
singles by the label, but they did them for the albums. The label
subsequently passed -- choosing other, more heartfelt songs by the GW?
Imagine this? I pressed on.
He told me they were Carey, Richard, and River. He claims to be a huge JM
fan and even knew about Saskatoon and the upcoming Joni Toronto Star Turn.
He said his band was into a major rock goes jazz thing at the time and her
music worked well.
He went on to say they were available to me and thus Mr. Muller on
reel-to-reel, if I was interested. I played passing interest.
I admit to having some Guess Who? stuff on my juke box, but was/am not a
major fan. Is this guy for real? I have his card and could score some maybe
never-before-heard Joni stuff, but am apprehensive about being taken by yet
another Hollywood wanna-be. Any collaborative information appreciated.
No regrets (yet?),
