The only thing I can think of is that the burnt CD has been
made in "mixed mode" instead of the audio only format. Mixed mode
allows both data and audio on the CD, with the first track being
computer data, and the rest audio.

Just wondering if the first track's got interpreted as the
data portion?

Shot in the dark.
