I grew up hearing the Segio Mendes and Brasil '66 'Chelsea Morning'. Help
me out here, folks. I always figured the line was 'and we'll talk in
pleasant tenses'. Others, like Neil Diamond (gag me, someone, at how he
butchers songs) have sung: 'and we'll talk in present tenses'. Lyrics
printed in Joni's 'Hits' booklet clearly say : 'present tenses' as well.
As far as what I hear her sing, it could be either/or. At the Joni
Mitchell Tribute, Colvin and Chapin-Carpenter also clearly sing :'present
tenses'.Call me crazy, but I feel 'pleasant tenses' sounds better than
'present tenses'. Did Sergio simply change the lyric? This has been
bothering me for some time now. peace, lonely painter
