<< Question 1: I'm told that Nazareth (of "Hair of the Dog" fame, a favorite
of jmdler Kay Ashley, btw) covered a Joni tune. Would anyone know which
one?>>
This Flight Tonight...matter of fact it was a huge hit, much more known
(outside of these circles) as a NAZARETH song than a Joni song. We have both
their studio version and their unplugged version (which I prefer) in the
collection.
Think of the intro to Heart's "Barracuda" and you have a feel for Nazareth's
treatment of the song.
<< Question 2: I understand that Prince covered "A Case of You." Is this
one on a previous Joni Covers volume? >>
Not on a previous volume, Julius, but rather a future one...thanks to Ron
Greer we have a nice copy of his live 1983 recording which will show up on
Volume 21. If you just gots to have an early copy of that one, Julius, I can
talk to my Board of Directors and see what I can do...;~)
<< Question 3: On a related note, Prince songs "Tangerine" and "The Ballad of
Dorothy Parker" are said to be related to Joni somehow. Anyone know the
connection? >>
Don't know the Tangerine answer, but Dorothy Parker features a reference to
"Help me"...
"Mind if I turn on the radio?"
"Oh, my favorite song" she said
And it was Joni singing "Help me I think I'm falling"
(Ring)
The phone rang and she said
"Whoever's calling can't be as cute as U"
Right then I knew I was through
(Dorothy Parker was cool)
