The first time I heard these songs was when I heard Joni do them, and they are
indelibly stamped in my brain as Joni songs. (Along with "Twisted" & "How Do You
Stop") Of course, if the cover of "Pork Pie" includes Joni's lyric, then it's a
no-brainer...
But I WILL say that I don't obsess over finding every "Pork Pie Hat" or
"Twisted"...the songs are jazz classics and have been recorded a lot. I have picked up
a couple copies that didn't have much to offer so I left them out. But when one comes
along like the Mandolin version, or Queen's fun take on "Square", that would have wide
appeal to Joni fans, it's a sin NOT to include it!
Besides, even the worst of the Pork Pies is better than some of the BSN's I've had to
endure! Ah, the sacrifices one makes for one's art... ;~)
