I think that Joni is quite deliberately invoking both characters.  The
references to the Castaneda books are clear (one small example:  the line
"oh say can you *see*" with *see* printed in italics on the liner notes:
that's a Castaneda reference).  But she would of course be aware that large
portions of her audience would think immediately of the other Don Juan.
When she calls herself Don Juan's reckless daughter, she's saying she's the
heir of the spiritual teacher AND the libertine.
