hello all-
have not been able to be on computer very much for a long time now.
long story......
have lost touch with the list. i read it every now and then...
this morning, had my coffee with you all and can't resist jumping into the
discussion.....
:-)
I'm responding to bits and pieces of the talk from the last couple of weeks.

It seems to me that one of the things many people, including me, like best
about our Joan is that she is always changing.... always searching for new
sounds and words to put into pictures. What she did in the 80s was as
exciting to me- then and now- as everything else in her discography. With
most artists, it seems to me that the basic sound often stays the same for
their whole career. This willingness to explore new sounds and styles is
one of my reasons for thinking that Joni is above and beyond any other
songwriter I've ever heard.
>From her first album, I was captived and amazed and impressed. As the
sounds got more complex, for a while I couldn't keep up. I was not ready. I
woke up in 1979 when Amelia went straight into my heart and made me listen
to the rest of Hejira. Thankfully, I got it. I've never looked back. When
DED came out, I was ready for it. It spoke the language of 80s music in a
way that lacked the cheese. I love some of the 80's music- especially Todd
Rundgren. I liked Thomas Dolby and Larry Klein. They were her fellow
adventurers in another Joni exploration of available sound. At the time, I
thought Joni was- as always- making bold statements. I was proud of her for
speaking out about the insanity of the western world. Those things needed
to be said in just that way at that time, I thought.
I think every song she has ever chosen to record has it's own statement to
make in that sense, in the particular Joni sort of way that we love. Each
song is important in hearing all that she has to tell us from her amazing
point of view. I like some songs better than others, but I truly value each
song. Been listening to DJRD a lot lately. As always, Joan's music feeds me
and heals me, and I am most grateful she is on the planet.

greetings to everyone! I hope you are all well.
all the best-
Linda
