Manson??? While it's possible that Joni borrowed the language of 'lost and lonely' ones from references to Manson and his followers, I can't imagine she is referring to the psycho-killer as the "lord on death row." It's more likely it was just another way of restating the popular 60's-70's question "Is God dead?" Also, I can't help but think that some of the same people who used to complain about JM singing in her upper range so much are now the same ones complaining/criticizing that she has lost it.
