I think that for

That certainly had a lot to do with why I loved this movie.  The music
was great (even though I never was a big Cat Stevens fan) and Bud
Cort's fake suicides were hilarious.  But no one has yet mentioned one
of the main reasons, for me anyway, that this movie was so wonderful.
Harold & Maude would never have been half as good without the
delightful Ruth Gordon as the irrepressible Maude.  Gordon's impish
irreverence and obvious love of life sparks this movie and makes it
work.  She makes me see why Harold would be attracted to Maude and
that makes the whole premise of the movie believable.  She was one of
a kind!
