Oh, that's sad - replying to my own posts!  But I just thought of something
else.  When an artist releases an album, how is anyone to know when the
songs originated?  The chorus might come from something their mother told
them when they were five, but they hadn't written it down until they were
40.  Does that mean the song is from their "back-catalogue" or not?  I'm not
a song-writer by any means, but I think many times the process must be
pretty much tied up in life experiences, not living in that exact moment.

The great exception which proves the rule is Graham Nash's song "Just A Song
Before I Go".  Someone bet him that he couldn't write a song in the 20
minutes he had before leaving for the airport, and that was the result!
