Hi Brian,
Your post brings waves of nostalgia...I remember a road trip taken in the
1970s to the Oregon coast. "Hissing of Summer Lawns" had just been released
and I was playing it constantly. As we crossed the bridge you mention I
clearly recall the title track "HOSL" playing on the tape deck. This was
during the infancy of automobile cassette decks. I had paid a small fortune
for the big black Teac auto-reverse model (external bracket mount, of
course...the damn thing was WAY too big to fit in the dashboard) and it
spent more time in the shop than it did in my car but for moments like this
it was all worth it. Whenever I hear that song I think back to that
brilliant summer day on the highway next to the ocean.
