I had this issue with a 1.0 site and IE 6, but have not seen it since.
Suggest that you clear both the browser cache and go to cmd
ipconfig.flushdns

Site is using a Core Design login module. I created a standard joomla
login module and the behavior was the same.
Has anyone seen this behavior before?
