I was given a sitemap.xml to upload. I uploaded to a Joomla 2.5 website, and it wasn't found by Google. I then did domain.com/sitemap.xml and it redirected to map.xml giving a 404 error of not found. I looked in the .htaccess and I don't see a mod_rewrite doing a redirect for sitemaps.
Is this an internal Joomla thing by default that anything coming in for sitemap.xml gets redirected to map.xml? Figuring that things go better with a Joomla extension, I found xmap: http://joomla.vargas.co.cr/en/downloads/components/xmap Is xmap what most of you are using for a sitemap to keep Google happy?
