Just a side note, AceSEF is now essentially replaced by MijoSEF. My understanding is that all of the developers at AceSEF left that company and started their own, due to differences of opinion... kind of like Mambo and Joomla. Since the split, service and support is much better, and they seem more open to new ideas and feature improvements.
I do agree with Stephen about not using SEF extensions, and personally prefer not use them when I can. But, they do help resolve the inherent issue with Joomla having multiple URLs for the same page and do allow for more granular customization of non-menu item URLs.
