As a matter of fact, I hadn't thought about another option that you may have. That common interface you have in mind is available from the "model" API (as opposed to the "DSL" API). Both InsertQuery and UpdateQuery extend StoreQuery: http://www.jooq.org/javadoc/latest/org/jooq/StoreQuery.html
