Interesting. I stand corrected. I cannot speak for others, but in this case I am not interested in the standards, I am interested in the results. As it stands now, the 2 major Java ODF APIs both generate ODS files with multi-line cells that cannot be "parsed" correctly by every major spreadsheet program: excel, google docs and libreOffice. I truly find it astonishing that not one of them can interpret text:line-break correctly, when as you point out, this is the standard; I would think most consumers of these APIs would require it to work in at least one of these applications.
So now my decision becomes heavily influenced by which API I feel gives me the most reasonable workaround to correct this "bug," or if they both seem unreasonable, abandon the idea and search for another solution altogether, like the original author of this post did.
