The scenario you mentioned can benefit from a distributed file system. You
could look into the network raid setups.

nbd
evms
intermezzo

and the likes...

NBD works great for high availability setups and if you only worry about
sessions then you are in luck. No file locks problems as in NFS.

Please report if it works for you or not.
