Hello everyone,
I believe in a greater CSSJ as much as you all do, but if we keep going at this project like this we wont get far. I am sorry but i speak with what experience i have had here over the last couple of years.
first came the need to start up local associations here, laudable and well intended as they were, none of them till date has clear cut /set out charters. next thing we started hearing was factions and divisons within a group of not more than 30 people
Then Adams setup the mail list - big hit!!! but that was just what it was, a list (at best we managed to build a register from it), but then it went dead,
then someone threw up the idea of the website and bang, before it even started, sub sites of different sets had started, chaos!!
someone volunteered to build a computer centre for benefit of the students and school and asked that a project manager be nominated to coordinate
that project, till date, there is no update on that (i stand to be corrected otherwise).
this also is not the first time offshore alumni are attempting to organise themselves as well, there have been several past attempts - all went quiet
at best, old time companions have gotten each others contacts from here and run off happily ever after
my point is that too many projects start and go dead almost immediately or at best half way thru. all these have to stop. we are not getting any younger and by all indices/matrix or whatever other measuring u choose, we really havent gotten off to any start.
the bed rock of any association is finance/funding - without which, nothing really gets done. so for starts, we should try and get everyone interested in these "projects" to commit finances. based on these, we can get lawyers in-house to draft a type of trust fund for us. members can then
nominate to be donors, or grantors or however else these trusts funding operates. we can then set a timeline (say one or two years) to build up these finances depending on how finances come; everyone can put something - N1000 or $1000 as u can carry.
at the end of these two years, we can use the monies gathered to buy land at asokoro, lekki, or even ranch in texas!! the land can be leased for the next 10years after which we can use the lease mony to build a "school house" or clubhouse or guesthouse for welfare/immediate accomodation for oldschool mates.
the money can also be set aside to pay for school fees of students in final year who made the best overall results from form 1 to 4 (or the jss - sss as it is now). better still, it can serve as university scholarship for the best male and female graduating students as well as the best overall sports man or woman.
the money can be
set aside to cater for children/family of a deceased tecaher or labratory, or re-equip the library or re-roof the assembly hall building or repair the toilets (i understand a whole CSSJ now uses shalanga!!) etc etc.
there's so so much we can achieve, all of this i have just poured out of my head without even reading thru talk more when we sit and organize properly. CSSJ was good to me and i believe allofus!!! let's pull resoures and strengths together and achieve!!! like yomi said, there are more than enough professionals here, we just need to set out a direction and start.
i have made my own contributions in form of setting up trusts, what is ur own contribution?
Lets do this!!!
