Echoing Jeremie's explanation, U-Prove (microsoft.com/uprove) is a blind 
signature scheme with selective disclosure, and doesn't mandate a serialization 
framework; JWP is indeed complementary and can be used as a vehicle to encode 
U-Prove token presentations.

Some 10Y+ back MSFT launched the UPROV system.  I know very little about it but 
it would be interesting to know the pros and cons of that compared to JWP.

Christian Paquin (cc'd here since he may not yet be on this list), one of the 
authors of U-Prove, has been notably involved in the new BBS algorithm and has 
also advised on JWP.

Since JWP is a container format and U-Prove is an algorithm they don't really 
compare directly, instead U-Prove was one of the inspirations for the current 
JWP drafts as a model of a type of algorithm that should be supportable.
