That would make the situation worse. What I wanted to say is that upwards
compatibility is not so easy to guarantee. For josm I decided that we
need to live with that fact and we use the auto-update and other
mechanisms to work around.
The API version is a nice idea, but don't expect to much of it. There will
nevertheless be trouble in the future - no reason to worry about :-)
As long as we can fix incompatibilites by a "Click Update" I don't have
bigger problems with that.
