HI, Thank you very much for everyones help, I was able to take simon advice and convert the ecw file to jpeg with a worldfile and import it in using the importimageplugin. I did have to up the JOSM memory to do this, following the instructions on http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/JOSM/Mac Thanks to Simon, Paul and Russ in replying to me! Cheers
