Hi! I am again and again amazed at all the functionality JOSM has aquired over the years and how easy and quick it is to reach most functions. Unfortunately this has gone with a need for bigger and bigger displays to get all the dialogues etc. on the screen.
In day-to-day operations the biggest annoyance for me is the lack of space on the right side where those dialogue boxes are. I know I can collapse or remove them (and often do) to gain some space. But most of these things are needed most of the time. I could detach some of them and move them out of the JOSM screen space alltogether but that seems cumbersome. So the question is whether we can find a way to use existing space better. I see several options: a) The tool bar below the menu bar doesn't need the space to the far right. Maybe we could use that space to give the dialogue boxes some more. b) Allow not only one column of dialogue boxes but several. This, of course, would make the map view smaller. c) Get rid of (some of the) buttons in the dialogue boxes. (I mean those buttons that pop up when you move over the box.) For instance the "Properties" box has [Add], [Edit], and [Delete] buttons. I could see small versions of those buttons moved into the tags table, similar to the "eye" button in the "Layers" box. The "Search" button on the "Selection" dialogue is already in the Upper Toolbar, etc. All these boxes have context menus on the right mouse button already, so it should be possible to get all functions somewhere. Just some ideas. I am sure you all have thought about this more than I have, so feel free to ignore me. :-) Jochen -- Jochen Topf joc...@remote.org http://www.remote.org/jochen/ +49-721-388298 _______________________________________________ josm-dev mailing list josm-dev@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/josm-dev
