That actual rebirth happens to us in our baptism. But we cannot understand
it until we are older. That is the reason why the church asks us to renew
our baptism vows on every Holy Saturday. Being born in a Catholic family and
getting baptized is probably not enough to get this understanding that we are
'born-again.' We have to learn the teachings of the church and also show
interest in experiencing this faith. Our parents definitely play a role in
setting us the example and forcing us to follow the commandments. That is
all part of our formation. It does take time for us to fully understand the
mystery of baptism.
