- We have all features and fixes planned for 0.9.0 committed. Tom will tag it after updating RubyGems and confirming it still works as expected.
- We will create an RC release including everything we'll distribute and post it on SF soon after.
- Over the long holiday weekend (USA Independence Day is the 4th) you all can beat the hell out of the 090 RC. If you find bugs they may or may not get fixed, but most likely not. They'd have to be pretty major. Report them either way. In my opinion the purpose of the RC is to test the distro, rather than JRuby specifically.
- We'll kick out the general release of 0.9.0 on Wednesday
Thanks to all of you who have helped out on this release. It's gonna be pretty sweet:
- .rb libraries packed into distro
- RubyGems working and packed into distro with JRuby-aware scripts
- New Java versions of Zlib, YAML, and StringIO
- Rake runs correctly; more testing to do here, but basic tasks I've tried seem fine
- Rails working better and better...I took HEAD and went from zero to http://localhost:3000/foo/hello working in just a few minutes...it feels really good to have made so much progress
- Various first-round performance enhancements beyond the Java reimpls
- Of course, too many compatibility fixes to list here... the list of known interpreter bugs is getting very short
Perhaps the most important is that this is the first release of JRuby *ever* that can do any of this out of the box. Unpack JRuby, add it to your path, and you're running Ruby on Java. How cool is that?
