Yes, you can use IIS and Jrun on different machines. Please see

The short answer to your question is that you can't.  JRUN is a
"compilier/interpreter" for JSP's, and runs on "top of" IIS.  Therefore,
they both must be resident on the same machine.

Your database, on the other hand, can reside on a different server.
