i second the idea of learning Java/JSP/Servlets - then it really matters
little whether you're using JRun or Tomcat or....
i had a few years of CF and other web-scripting-language experience before
moving into Java/JSP: i hated how easily one's CF projects can turn into
spaghetti, how much effort it takes to separate logic form presentation,
lack of support for custom functions/methods (apparently fixed in CF 5),
lack of object-orientation in general.
JAva/Servlets/JSP is a great foundation for really separating presentation
and logic, but it still takes self-discipline to keep java code out of your
JSP files. The ability to separate tiers of the application but use the same
language and object-hierarchy paradigm for each tier is the great!
Having one mid-size project under my belt, i'm looking at custom tag
libraries and and the Jakarta Struts library to really get all the scriptlet
code out of my JSP files.
