Michael,

I suspect that JRUN support has just recently begun monitoring of their
boards, I've never seen so many reponses from Allaire/Macromedia, and in
such a short timeframe, in the year that I've been on this board. I also
suspect that this may have to do with overall business climate for IT
software/services in the economy right now. When the economy stumbles and
sales drop, companies begin to become more responsive to their customer
base. I know I posted several problems with JRUN back in March-May
timeframe of this year, including issues with the JDBC driver that is
packaged with JRUN for SQLServer 7.0. I never received any responses from
Allaire's support, or any assistance. In fact, we returned the version of
JRUN that included the JDBC driver, and purchased the "lower end" version,
and then went and purchased Merant's JDBC driver out of frustration over
JRUN's complete lack of support. Only recently, when the JDBC driver issue
was re-posted by someone else on the forum did I get an email from JRUN's
technical support, more than 6 months after I initially posted the issue.

I also heard through our local JavaMug group that Allaire is planning on
deploying a new version of JRUN under another name. I don't know if this is
true, but some people were speculating that the reason for the name change
would be to distance themselves from their previous poor reputation for
support, amongst other internal problems currently occurring within
Macromedia/Allaire. This also is not new. Many other companies are also
either renaming their products, or renaming themselves to distance
themselves from whatever previous issues/reputation they may have had in the
industry. I saw the same thing happen in the oil and gas industry in
Houston when the oil bust hit in 1982.

Just my two cents worth, but I would take advantage of Allaire/Macromedia's
new emphasis on support while it last.

Celeste

Question for Mark Fields:

How are the forums monitored at allaire.com? I
posted this problem out there 3 times and never
received any responses except someone trying to
duplicate the problem.
