Vim is not an IDE, is a text editor. You can do autocomplete and many other things. One of the key points of vim is that we spend more time navigating around text that writing so the normal "mode" of Vim is not for editing but to navigate through the code. Just for the record. I was a huge fan of Vim, but now I am an Emacs heretic. I find that emacs integrates better with my tools and workflow, but that is just a personal opinion. Even if you are not going to stick with any of them, you should try to learn emacs or vim.
