I started using Emacs when I decided to learn a little bit of Lisp for
fun after reading some Paul Graham's easies, and indeed there is
nothing like Slime to interact between the Lisp and the editor.

At the same time I found that Vim was not playing nice with my other
tools. I like the fact that I do a lot of stuffs using Emacs beside
programming. I like the way it handle VCS, git, irc channels, email,
...

After learned a little bit of Lisp I felt very frustrated with
VimScript, not that emacs lisp is perfect but, for me is more fun and
I am more efficient coding in elisp than in VimScript, because of
that I had a more customize editor in emacs than in Vim

The final deal breaker was when I discovered org-mode [1]. I can't
think a better way to organize my mental process that org-mode,
specially after customize some function to fit my process. I use it
for almost everything: todo list, taking notes, agenda, time tracking,
and even as an easy spreadsheets.

Definitely, Emacs is not for everybody but, so far, it's the best tool for me.

> Are you using emacs Viper mode?

I used for a long time, but as time passed I added a lot of
customizations so is not really viper anymore. :)

Just should give it a try, even if it is only for fun. You will learn
a lot of stuff that will make you a better vim user.
