But not all browsers have 'true' full screen. For example IE (if I remember it right, at least IE6) still leaves a top panel in full screen mode (it has a special kiosk mode but that's different). So comparing client width with
screen width isn't robust if I understand things correctly.

Yes, my idea does not work reliably. If also fails when there is a scroll-bar, no matter if vertical or horizontal.

By the way, I did not find a way to set Safari (on Windows) to fullscreen mode. Doesn't Safari have that or did I miss something?
