for me it is no waste of time, as there are requirements by the 
customers/users. And if I compare it to daily used desktop apps (Outlook, 
Word,...) then I see that they have the same behavior which I want for the 
web based application. For me it's no real difference whether somebody 
starts an application via a link in the browser or an icon at the desktop, 
he just has specific requirements, and wishes regarding the usability 
(which can be different of course, depending on the App and on the user). 
In this case that the application remembers its last "view state" (the 
whole rendering depends on the window size).

This was the logic before, and the users of the app did not like it.

Well I have found an acceptable solution, but for me it's interesting that 
there are such limitations. You can write orientation change handlers (and 
more) for iPad, but you cannot detect maximized state of the window....
