onchange is not fired when JavaScript changes the value of the element.
If you were doing it with plain old JavaScript, you can use fireEvent [IE]
and dispatchEvent [Other browsers].
Since you are doing it with jQuery, you can just trigger the change event
manually
$(".#yourElement").change() or $(".#yourElement").trigger("change");
