I think the answer depends on the servlet engine.
IBM WebSphere places the generated .java file and compiled .class files for
your JSPs in the /opt/IBMWebAS/servlets/pagecompile directory. I'm not sure
if there is an option to delete the generated source, but by default it
keeps it. The file name has the form _<filename>_xjsp.java.
