Hi Magnus,
I started using Oracle's server in its version 1.0 and I've used it in
almost all its versions since then. Most of the serious inet
applications in my organization have been built using it and I have to
say that this is partially my fault. However, I've seen this server
becoming fatware and now I'm trying to start a re-revolution(first one
was to go from CGI to WAS) to get away from this server and into a pure
Java solution as it has become very unstable for us in Unix plattforms
and it requieres lots of resources. I was also very disappointed with
Oracle support, we still have yet to get a stable version running for
OSF unix.
I haven't tried their JSP support but if you are not going to use
Oracle-only features, like we unfortunately do for the moment, I would
recommend having a go with more lightweighted servers (I'm using
Apache+JRun for example) and keep close to standard features so you can
swap servers more easily. I still use Oracle but just the database, as
we are satisfied with its performance, but I'm trying to use standard
JDBC, just in case.
Of course, this is just my personal opinion which comes from our
experience here.
Just my 2c,
Dan
PD: OAS 4.0.7 behaviour is much more stable in NT but I'm not sure
wether that's good news or not as I don't like the idea of choosing my
OS because of the server I'm using. That goes completely against the
idea of platform independence we've learnt to love :).
