Hi!
I've been working with Oracle Application Server the latest half year and
I'm very satisfied with it. Right now I'm working on a project with JSP,
Servlets and Beans which are communicating with a database. So far I've
found it easy to work with OAS and JSP. I'm using OAS 4.0.8.1 for Solaris
with a special JSP patch. OAS 4.0.9 will be released at technet.oracle.com
this weekend. However it is very easy to start with JSP on OAS 4.0.8.1 with
the patch jsp_install.zip. I have it for NT if anyone is interested.
One part of OAS is the weblistener/server. By default that is a weblistener
from spyglass. But I know you could plug in a listener from Apache if you
want to. Look at technet.oracle.com/products/oas for more information.
By the way Oracle Web Server is the old name of OAS when it was in version
3.

Subject: Re: Oracle vs. Apache / JRun
Hi all,
I have been investigating JSP on OAS (Oracle Application Server)
recently, the
latest version I could download from http://technet.oracle.com/ was
4.0.8.1 (I
reccomend technet for all Oracle documentation needs alone) was 4.0.8.1.
OAS explicitly does not support JSP's as yet but I managed to get a
reference on
technet that said they would be available in 4.0.8.2, I have a question
with Oracle
at the moment about getting beta or pre-release code.
You should be able to run OAS with Apache, this is mentioned in the
docs (I never
chased it down though).
OAS is also a HTTP server, so you may not want Apache in the mix as
well.
OAS seems to be a production class application, although I have
heard problems in
much earlier versions. I have never run it in a production system.
Other than OAS I have never seen a product called Oracle Web Server,
it may be
vapourware or markettingware, so check.
I also have only been looking from the point of view of Linux/NT.
Good Luck,
Andrew Russell.
