One site you might want to check out is the Cofax content management
system (used
by several newspapers) -- more information at
<http://cofax.staff.philly.com>. The
web part is Tomcat + Apache based, and one of the software engineers on
this
project mentioned they had had almost 3 million page hits in one recent
week.
