At no point have I said I'm a listserv God, nor have I said "I know all" or
even "I know a lot." I've provided answers, pointers, clues. You're right -
I don't have to be reading this list, period. I certainly haven't gotten
anything out of it in quite some time, but it has potential to help me as
well as others. It's that potential I want to see realised.
>Yes I'm new to this list but not to mailing lists/usenet etc. I happen to

Sure, no doubt there. I'm not trying to be polite. I don't have time to
serve your ego, or the ego of anyone else; if your ego needs massaging,
you'll have to do that yourself. I don't mind being told I'm wrong.
Personally, I don't see any real reason anyone else should, either.
>I hope you realize that you posting dozens of "This is not on topic!!!"

This is the format I usually follow:
"This isn't on topic; [topic, forum or url] is the correct one for your
question. Try to do better next time.
However, here's an answer..."
Thus, it serves multiple purposes: 1) It shows the correct forum. 2) It
exhorts proper list etiquette (i.e., "Don't post offtopic stuff all the
time.") 3) It answers the question to the best of my abilities.
Perfect? No. But it works.
>Aside from the off-topic posts there are a lot of topics here which cover

Sure, I have no problems with that.

Hmm. I *am* the correct forum for my sons to ask about sex, I think, as
their parent - what better forum would there be? Public schools? I don't
think so. If he asks me for a beer, why would I direct him to the AA? A
request doth not alcoholism make, after all. These aren't inappropriate
questions for a son to ask his father. Now, if he asks me FOR sex... that
I'd address as being inappropriate. :)
