Jennifer,
I'm surprised nobody told you yet that the ".txt" extension was added
because when you saved it, right there on the dialog box in front of you, it
probably had a combobox for the file type that was set to "Text (*.txt)". If
you tell it to save it as .txt, it will. If you want it to save as something
else, change that option to "All files (*.*)" and it won't do that anymore.
It would get pretty old having to rename the file each time! And yes, what
Joseph said (Get a real editor!). I recommend Multi-Edit from American
Cybernetics (PLEASE don't ask me how to find their web site!!).

I suppose renaming the files in the explorer is beyond the realm of
possibility? Another option is using an editor that doesn't tack on stupid
extensions...
