Bob,

As far as I know, Web Matrix is just an enhanced,
visual NotePad. Although it's great for creating .NET
web applications, you can only edit one page (file) at
a time, and cannot work with a whole project. I
haven't used it yet, but this is what I've been told
by other developers in my department who've tried to
use it.

We currently use CodeCharge Studio, which
automatically generates .NET, but also Java Servlets
and JSP, so we really don't loose either way and can
regenerate JSP applications in .NET if needed.

And Visual Studio.NET may be the only choice if you
want to manually code your applications. There is
nothing that can replace it, and Web Matrix probably
is good for "toying" or learning .NET.

But of course both CCS and VS.NET are not free, and
since you're so excited about "free", you're probably
not developing anything serious? :-)

M
