Hey everyone!

Some time ago, I asked for help from this list and
received what I needed. That information was included
in my article that has now been accepted for
publication. Perhaps those on this list might be
interested in reading the full manuscript.

If you are, check out the forthcoming special issue of
the International Journal of Communication, which is
published out of New Delhi. The article's name is "The
Role of Ethos in Rhetorical Conversion: The Case of
Ernst Jünger and Auf den Marmorklippen."

Abstract Below:

Ernst Jünger is ostensibly one of the most
distinguished figures of the twentieth-century, yet he
is virtually unknown in American scholarship. On the
first day of the Second World War, he published a
scathing criticism of Nazi Germany, and he did it with
Hitler’s consent. Jünger’s Auf den Marmorklippen
issues a challenge to traditional perspectives on
ethos as Jünger employs his prior reputation as a war
hero and literary giant not to intensify a present
version of himself, but to change his identity
altogether. Through the case of Junger, this
manuscript provides a theoretical perspective on ethos
as an enabler of conversion, personal redemption, and
social protest, and looks at the broad role of
conflict in the revision and creation of identity and
its subsequent effects on ethos. Overall, we see how
discursive self-change aligned with enhanced audience
identification may strengthen the bond between rhetor
and audience, possibly fortifying that rhetor’s ethos.
