Another important text in this regard is obviously "An der Zeitmauer", where the process of planetisierung is analyzed from an astrological/cosmological point of view. In my opinion, this book penetrates far more profoundly into the fundamental causes of planetization than any other of his books. Indeed, its insights from the 1950's into the invisible links between globalization and some many other planet-wide phenomena such as global warming, the global village, ecological and cultural monoculture, etc were far in advance of any other observers - and I believe still go further and deeper than those being made even today in 2008.
(Incidentally, Juenger mentioned to me in a meeting with him in Wilflingen in 1995 that An der Zeitmauer was perhaps the most underrated, overlooked book he had ever written - he was evidently very disappointed by its reception.) There are some passages in Der Arbeiter/ The Worker (1932) that remind one of globalisation: the way 'Technik' is transforming our world. Especially in sone chapters of the second part. Jüngers Essay Der Weltstaat (1960) would also be relevant. It was Jüngers answer on the question Wo stehen wir heute?/Where do we stand now? - a collection of essays published 1960. Other essays in this book are from Albert Schweitzer and Wilhelm Röpke. One of the main points which Jüngers adresses is the difference between a national state and a 'world state'. It comes close to the discussion about the consequences of globalisation in our time. There is an article by Hans-Peter Schwartz called "Das planetarische Zeitalter. Zeitkritik und Zeitfremdheit bei Ernst Jünger". Published in: Jahrbuch für finnisch-deutsche Literaturbeziehungen. Helsinki 1996, Heft 28, S. 169-180. You can look in Nicolai Riedels "Jünger-Bibliographie 1928-2002" for further literature. I hope this will help you. kind regards from Holland, Jerker Spits --- Simon Friedrich <[email protected]> wrote: > Which German word in the original text do you mean > ? Not "Globalisierung" perhaps? > (The common use of this word, at least in its > English version, has become shallower and more > restricted than Juenger presumably intended when he > used it. His meaning was more than merely > economic, political, social - it was > also "planetary" in an astronomical > or "earth-evolution" sense - and in this > your "planetization" is more precise.) > In any case, I don't recall ever having read the > word "planetization" in the English translations of > his works, of which I've read all. > Simon F > > > ----- Ursprüngliche Mail ---- > Von: Leon J.
