I vote for Grails + JSON + GWT.

I like the idea of hack night, but we should save that for a night when we can't line up a presenter (IMO).

Anyone want to hear about my experience combining Grails + JSON + GWT? It's been "interesting".

July came and went without a peep about a JUG meeting but maybe we can do better in August and September.

Andy Barton's recently migrated from Eclipse to IntelliJ and he says he'd be willing to share his experiences with that on September 8. That sounds great to me.

Does anybody have any ideas for the August 11 meeting?

I could recycle an old Developer's SIG presentation on the functional language ML that's based on lecture slides I've used when teaching ML at UA. There's no direct connection to Java but if you're curious about functional programming ML is a good vehicle for seeing the concepts. (Haskell is better but I don't have any slides on it!)

Also, I've been digging into the data binding machinery in Adobe Flex recently and could perhaps get together something interesting that talks about the idea and implementation of data binding in Flex.

A third idea for August is one I've mentioned before: a hack night where we show up with our laptops, quickly identify some open source thing or REST interface to fiddle with, and see if we can do something interesting with it before the beer beckons. (Not for those who like a well-structured meeting.)

Other thoughts?
